When my friend Beth Daigle, who is also an author (follow the link to her new book at the bottom of this post!) and blogger, came to one of my workshops at Helen Thomas Simply Smashing in Andover MA, I was thrilled to give her tips and guidance on the redesign of her husband’s home office. Beth has a beautiful home in North Andover, MA, but her husband’s office was the last frontier that needed to be revived! During the workshop, Beth took it all in, and really dove into her plans for the space, and to top it all off, the put those plans into action right away. Also, her adorable dog, Oscar, watched over the entire project and even insisted on being in the photo shoot of the final space!
In my workshops, everyone arrives with photos of their space, and general dimensions of the space. Everyone shares a bit about their space and talks about what they are hoping to achieve. After that, each person finds a cozy spot and uses Pinterest to create a dream board of their space. This is the jumping off point for creating their plan for their room, and it helps me give guidance on product selection, room layout colors and more. What you leave with is an action plan for yourself, plus you have me accessible via text after the workshop to bounce ideas off of. I have many clients that text me from the store with photos of products, asking for my opinion.
I definitely had some favorite parts of the space, even though I loved it all. Here are my favorite elements:
- The large diamond patterned Numa rug from Dash and Albert
- The Samsung Frame TV that completely looks like a piece of art over the fireplace
- The painted woodwork around the fireplace
To give you an appreciation for what Beth did in her space, check out these before and after photos! These first two are the small sitting area on the wall opposite the fireplace. It’s amazing what a fresh wall paint, a new rug, and a gallery of photos does! Note that the photos on the wall are more personalized and the ones on the right are ones she took herself.
This second set of before and afters really shows how the rug just changes the space. Also, getting rid of the large chair and the table from in front of the windows balances out the space behind the desk.
I want to thank Beth for coming to my workshop and for allowing me to share the transformation of her husband’s office. Right now, she is on tour promoting her new book, “Musing Mediterranean”. It is an entertaining tale of her first visit to Greece, Italy and Turkey. The book is more than a travelogue; it is an account of a full travel experience from the planning phase to the return home. An anxious traveler; Beth’s initial reaction to this 14 day trip was panic. Despite her phobia and reluctance, the Mediterranean enticed her. As someone half Greek and half Italian, seeing her ancestral countries had always been a dream. Yet, with that dream now in reach she was overwrought. This, however, was an opportunity, if not a gift, she couldn’t refuse. The nine family members who joined Beth were her support, entertainment and constant reminder that travel is a wonderful thing. This book is My Big Fat Greek Wedding meets Eat, Pray, Love. Good luck with your book, and everyone be sure to buy one!
